What Byewall does

Byewall helps users understand what paywalled articles are about. Byewall does not bypass, remove, or circumvent paywalls.

Data we process

  • Article URLs submitted by users for analysis.
  • Limited request metadata for reliability and abuse prevention (for example, IP and user agent).
  • Optional user feedback votes on summaries/links.

Browser extension behavior

  • Paywall detection runs locally in the browser on visited pages.
  • The extension opens byewall.app with the current page URL when the user chooses to analyze an article.
  • The extension stores minimal local state in Chrome extension storage.

How we use data

  • To generate article summaries and related context.
  • To improve service performance (for example, caching and rate limiting).
  • To monitor reliability and prevent abuse.

Data sharing

We do not sell personal data. We may share limited request data with infrastructure and AI/search providers only as needed to operate the service.

Retention

Cached and analytics data are retained for limited periods and automatically expire according to service configuration.
